In the Western World we aren't taught to relax. Some people even feel guilty if they catch themselves relaxing.
Our world is consumer driven and to consume one must have money. Money, we are taught, doesn't grow on trees and is earned through hard work. Instead of relaxation we get caffeine in the Western World! It’s almost as if we have lost our sense of balance.
Fortunately, relaxation is natural. Like breathing, we are able to regulate our levels of relaxation. As we are easily able to increase our rate of breathing and decrease our rate of breathing at will, so we can control our levels of relaxation once we have been taught.
Relaxing is far easier done than said. Any good hypnotherapist will be able to teach you how to relax your mind and body in minutes.
Hypnotherapy for arthritis - Most people think that arthritis is a physical illness that occurs in the body and only in the body. After years of studying consciousness and hypnosis I came to believe that this was not the case. I came to believe that arthritis had its origin in the mind and that this was the best place to treat it. Then I got arthritis myself.
In the eighteen hundreds physicians thought that hysteria was a physical disease. Patients suffered paralysis and seizures during fits of hysteria. Around this time Jean-Martin Charcot started using hypnosis to study this mysterious disease.
While Charcot never used hypnotherapy for arthritis, he did discover that he could induce the symptoms of hysteria using hypnosis. He also discovered that he could relieve the symptoms of hysteria using hypnosis. This led him to the conclusion that hysteria has an origin in the mind and not the physical body.
More specifically, Charcot came to the radical conclusion that not only was hysteria not a pathological disease but instead a disease of the mind and that this disease was caused by emotion. This has been verified by many of the world’s leading hypnotherapists based on direct personal experience with thousands of clients.
In my own practice, I have often been impressed at how rapidly symptoms of chronic illness faded once the emotional causes were addressed and corrected. I was far less impressed to discover that as a healer, I was not exempt from illness myself. Driving to work one morning I noticed that the pain in my right hand that I’d been trying to ignore for some time had reached a new level. It was now uncomfortable and painful to grip the steering wheel of my car. The time had come for me to practice hypnotherapy for arthritis on myself.
That evening on arriving home I got to work. I guided myself into hypnosis with the intention of finding the event that created the emotions causing this painful condition in my hand. I didn’t have to wait long before my subconscious mind dropped me into a scene I’d experienced as a child. My grandmother was in a lot of trouble!
My grandmother was a gentle hedonist. She lived on chocolate éclairs and cup cakes that she washed down with sugary fizzy drinks. The only thing she allowed to get in the way of all the unhealthy food was a course of at least thirty strong cigarettes a day. Of course this eventually led to obesity and emphysema. As a much loved matriarch of our large family, this caused great concern. A secret emergency family meeting was called to find a solution to this problem. As a young boy I was party to this secret meeting.
The whole family agreed; something drastic had to be done or my grandmother would die. They resolved to stop buying her unhealthy foods and cigarettes and to confiscate her ever growing stash (which she shared with me). For my grandmother’s sake, I was horrified! I knew that my family had decided a fate worse than death for my beloved grandmother. I had to warn her!
As soon as the meeting was concluded I darted to my grandmother’s room to warn her of this conspiracy. I spilled the beans and told her everything. To say she was angry would be the understatement of the decade. She was livid. Hell hath no fury like a granny without swiss roll and cigarettes. For the first time in years she got out of her chair and onto her feet unaided. She stormed down the passage into the dining room where the rest of the family were wrapping up the meeting. Things got ugly quickly. Faces turned red and words were heatedly exchanged. I disappeared into the garden while the grown-ups sorted it out.
When I eventually had the courage to return indoors, my father was waiting for me. He made it very clear very quickly that he felt betrayed by my disclosure. He made it very clear that I wouldn’t be party to anymore family meetings until I was mature enough and that he was disappointed with me. Actually, he was bitterly disappointed. I was stunned. Single handed I’d managed to upset everyone that I loved and most of all had upset my father who’d only been trying to help my sick grandmother.
As a mature man observing this scene immediately realised that the hurt of this event had led to my arthritis. I explained to the little boy that he, like everyone else, had been trying help and that his intention was good. I explained to him that children are adults without experience and it was just his lack of experience that got him into trouble. I told him that he was a good little boy for trying to help. I then explained to him that the only way to get experience is to learn from his or other peoples mistakes. I explained to the little boy that his father had spoken in the heat of the moment and didn’t mean what he said.
When the little boy realized that he was not a bad little boy and that he had not been rejected by his father he was able to forgive his father. After forgiving his father he then forgave himself. I emerged myself from hypnosis and went to bed feeling a little lighter. It was only when I got to the office the next morning that I realized that my hand had stopped hurting. It was still sensitive to the touch though and I could still feel the bumps growing on my knuckle under my skin. But the pain was gone.
Now, over a year later there is no sign that I’d ever had a problem. I no longer believe that emotions cause chronic illness in our bodies. I now know that it’s the emotions we suppress that can cause chronic illness in the body. I also know from direct personal experience that hypnotherapy for arthritis is effective.
There's no magic, no swinging pendulums or swaying watches, and no one is counting backwards as they slump into unconsciousness. This is medical rather than stage or movie hypnotism, and it is increasingly being used to treat the symptoms of diseases and conditions as diverse as asthma, cystic fibrosis, snoring, migraines and warts.
